Steeves' Summary #49: Mission Possible!                     September 2008

Life is pretty comfortable here in Saint John. We've readjusted to work and routine yet haven't forgotten Kenya.

Last week we were at a missions festival put on by the Northwest association of Atlantic Baptist Churches in Hartland, NB. 30 Churches were invited. I (Michael) was asked to share about Kenya with 40 men at a breakfast, while Bernadine shared stories and slides of Kenya with 130 women at a luncheon. The 16,000 photos we took in Kenya have made presentations far more interesting! During the weekend, we had a chance to meet new people as well as reestablish old connections. It was a real encouragement to be part of a group of people interested in missions.

As the Saturday evening event was finishing, we saw the pastor from Jacksonville and asked the time of his morning service. Before we were done talking, we had agreed to do our presentation the next morning to around 300 people. I can't imagine doing that on such short notice a few years ago – we've come a long way! From the start we've seen our role as a bridge between Kenya and Canada. That role continues as we share on this end.

Return to Kenya: AIM Canada has accepted our renewal, however we still have plenty to do before we return to Kenya. We are working on the courses that AIM wants us to do and have found them very useful. The first course we did together was on “The Life and Teachings of Christ.” It has often been said that the best way to learn something is to teach it. I am teaching an adult Sunday School class on the same topic. I am working through the “God's World Mission” course on my own, while Bernadine is working on “New Testament History” course and “Bible Theology.” We hope to return to Rift Valley Academy in 2010. We will wait on God to see what develops.

Feed My Lambs: The project has been faced with additional challenges as the price of food in Kenya has risen drastically. It has been 2-1/2 years since the program was started and it continues to bless some of the poorest in the community.

We've got lots of photos and stories to share. If you would us to visit your church or group, please contact us and we'll set up a time.

Blessings,

Michael, Bernadine, Julianne and Evan

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
