Steeves' Summary #8:  Giving Thanks     October 3, 2004
Baltimore in the FallEvan in Apple TreeDeer at Dawn

Giving Thanks

Finding comfort in the fall routine,
Crisp, cool air on the morning walk to school,
Flocks of geese honking their way to the lake,
Bright yellow sunflowers, standing tall and swaying,
Harvest decorations on people's front porch,
Pumpkins being sold by the roadside.

Filling a basket with fresh apples from the orchard,
Cuddling in cozy sweaters in the fall breeze,
Catching a whiff of wood smoke on an evening walk,
Julianne and Evan raking and jumping into a pile of crunchy leaves,
Our two wide-eyed children watching the deer eat fallen apples at dawn.

Listening as people share their blessings at our Thanksgiving church service,
Driving through the back woods of Albert County,
Admiring the splashes of brightly coloured maples,
Fifteen of us crowded into one house for Thanksgiving dinner,
Enjoying the aroma of pumpkin pie in the oven.

All moments to cherish.

Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

50% thermometerWe would have missed all of this if we had been in Kenya. We have no doubt that we would have had different experiences in Kenya to be thankful for, but we have learned just a little bit of what Paul meant to "be thankful in all circumstances".  We would still like to leave for Kenya in early December.  Passing 50% of our montly support was a milestone, but much remains.

Thanks for your notes of encouragement after our last newsletter.

Blessings,

Michael, Bernadine, Julianne and Evan
